Because our people are our biggest asset, we’re currently implementing a host of new initiatives that will benefit them. Peter Dixon, Group Manager – Human Capital, is in charge of the implementation.

Peter is no newcomer to RAM. After working as an independent consultant, he recently made the move to join RAM on a full-time basis. Considering that our staff complement is over 1 000, Peter’s role is pivotal to our future success. He understands the challenges and benefits of implementing processes and realigning all human resource functions, which will be beneficial to every RAM employee and to the performance of the company.

Peter’s first priority is the design and implementation of performance assessments and evaluation criteria. Quarterly assessments for every job tier will soon become mandatory at RAM. While Peter will ensure that managers still exercise their autonomy, they’ll be given specific guidelines regarding the assessments based on industry specific criteria and measurements. The assessments will not only measure performance, but will also be used to review salary increases, ensuring that high performers are recognised and rewarded.

Peter is also in the process of enhancing the systems that are already in place with regard to ‘salary ranges’ for each department. This will ensure that salaries are consistent and linked to skills, performance and experience. All positions at RAM will be graded, with job evaluation criteria equated to each position.

Recruitment at RAM will now become a centralised function. All new employees are subject to a number of stringent pre-employment checks. Given the security risks that the courier industry faces, these checks are necessary to ensure that our clients can entrust their valuable goods into our hands.

The checks include background police checks for criminal offences as well as polygraph tests.

RAM offers a premier service to our clients and as such requires a premier, committed and dedicated work force to deliver on our offering. On Peter’s recommendations, a number of employee investment initiatives will be rolled out. These include group wellness days and training programmes.
