RAM on industry crime

In order to offer a safe and reliable courier service, we need to constantly monitor and remain one step ahead of the threat posed by crime. We spoke to David and Graeme Lazarus on the subject of security threats to our business.
“We stick to the formula” explains David Lazarus. “We are proactive. We invest time, effort and money in our equipment, our technology and most importantly our staff. We gather the best possible intelligence about potential threats and strictly enforce standard operating procedures.” “We monitor every step of the process,” says Graeme Lazarus. RAM’s premises have a plethora of security equipment. Our warehouse facilities have vast banks of cameras observed in a secure control room, which also monitors all vehicles on the road via satellite tracking. High risk freight handling is divided into two categories. The first, true value items, consists of items with a high individual worth, such as gold and diamonds. The second category includes low individual price items like cellphones, which have a relatively low cost per item, but become a desirable target when transported en masse. “Our biggest threat is internal,” says Graeme. “The media usually focuses on sensational hijacking crimes, but most companies suffer their greatest losses internally. We never take our eyes off the ball and every staff member is under scrutiny every minute of every day,” he explains. This bodes well for all RAM clients, who can rest assured knowing that the same security we apply to diamond shipments also applies to their documents in transit. “Insurance is the key to guarding against property loss. It’s simply the only way to take financial pain out of theft and loss,” says David. RAM is FSB registered and advises all clients to choose this option when transporting valuables. While we have every possible mechanism in place to avoid the worst case scenario, should anything go wrong, it makes sense to cover your losses. |
